| The word "clarifier" is a bit of a misnomer for these materials we often use to help clean up the look of a beer or to reduce the amount of loose sediment in the bottom of our bottles...more.

| Using Steeping Grains
|
| Whenever using grains in a steep it is best to keep the water temperature between 150 and 175 degrees F to avoid extracting harsh tannic qualities. Higher temperatures or actually boiling grains produces nothing positive and everything negative. Extending the steep time a bit (30 to 45 minutes) at controlled temperature will give all the opportunity needed to pull out complex, rich flavors. Use the extra steeping time to prepare other ingredients or clean utensils so it won't actually add time to your process. You'll not only have better flavors, but also be a better organized brewer. Beer quality doesn't increase because of the time you spend making it... it increases because of how well you spend the time.
